Larry Winokur
Larry Winokur began his career as a journalist
and travel writer. On the path to earning
his law degree in 1976, he worked with David
Gest PR as a staff copywriter and in the
representation of such clients as The Doobie
Brothers, The Jackson Five and Paul Anka.
In 1979 he joined Paul Baker, eight years
later merging with Nanci Ryder, in the founding
of Baker/Winokur/Ryder Public Relations.
A generalist with a passion for working
in unexplored and challenging areas, Winokur
has been a driving force in the signing
and servicing of corporate, corporate entertainment,
special event, hospitality, consumer product
and non-profit accounts. He has represented
such independent production companies as
Propaganda Films, Anonymous Content, Landscape
Entertainment, Mosaic Media Group and Saban,
also working such exhibitors as Century
Theatres, AMC Theatres, United Artists Theatre
Circuit and seven major exhibitors via online
movie ticketing service Fandango. In the
realm of television, Winokur has also been
integral in waging the launch campaigns
for such new cable channels as E!, Sci-Fi
Channel, Tech TV, Pax TV, TVG and Sí TV.
While spearheading trade missions to Hollywood
for several U.S. governors as well as promoting
independent film through representation
of AFMA, Winokur has honed a reputation
as a capable facilitator of business-to-business
communication. His clients have included
financial institutions such as Banque Paribas,
real estate giants such as TrizecHahn and,
given his legal background, some of the
nation's largest law firms.
In the area of special events, Winokur
has worked on projects for three U.S. presidents,
including Habitat for Humanity's Jimmy Carter
Work Project and Voices of Change '92, a
fundraising gala for presidential candidate
Bill Clinton featuring Barbra Streisand,
while shepherding U.S. visits of Green Cross
International president Mikhail Gorbachev.
Winokur was responsible for staging the
first Western concerts in Beijing's Forbidden
City and at India's Taj Mahal for Yanni;
promoting two unprecedented art exchanges
in the Soviet Union; and publicizing the
closure/reopening of Biosphere 2.
Among the high points of his career, Winokur
was integral in the conception and production
of "Stand & Be Proud," a song and video
project which united multi-ethnic choirs
and rival gangs across Los Angeles in the
wake of the 1992 riots. His role in the
project, which was adopted as the official
anthem of Rebuild LA, earned him a commendation
from Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley.
