NYC HYBRID-TAXI CAMPAIGN

Tuesday, July 26, 7:30pm

The Hollywood Hill is working on a campaign to change all of NYC Taxi cabs from gas guzzling Crown Victorias to smooth Hybrids. The blueprint of the project is already in place. In July '05, Mayor Bloomberg signed into action a bill allowing hybrids to be used as taxis in the five burrows of NYC. Such legislation is our first step towards a cleaner New York. With the legislation in place, it is now up to us to create media and awareness campaigns to get New Yorkers and cabbies to make the switch. The benefits are staggering. NYC has the highest asthma population and more kids have asthma in NYC than anywhere else in the US. New Yorkers themselves say clean air is their number one priority. Not to mention all the financial benefits to cabbies… $7000 per year in gas savings straight to their pocket (think of it as a 12% raise). Any way you look at it - this is an issue worth fixing.

As an industry-driven volunteer membership organization, The Hollywood Hill has the resources and the talent to create the spots, media, web content to make this happen. Just imagine a street full of hybrids, zooming quietly around NYC. Just imagine happy cabbies stopping for any fair because they know how much money they are saving with every trip (Brooklyn - sure, climb in!). The city will be cleaner, cooler and what an example to the rest of the US and the world.

Team leader Jason Ensler will be spearheading another brainstorming session for commercial spot ideas. We'll also begin laying out strategy issues.  More Details...

Some of us are for it, some of us are against it, some of us just don't know. It is one of the most controversial topics we'll be facing, yet most of us haven't had the time to explore it and understand the arguments.
