Visual Effects are starting to be outsourced. The cost of high-quality equipment is dropping, proprietary technology can now be licensed, and countries like India and China have large amounts of low-priced workers who can be "trained" in CGI. Which leaves one last levee holding the floodgate... the operational know-how, pipeline management, and Hollywood relationships to acquire and execute large projects. But this they can import and once they do, these countries will be in a position to offer lower-cost, but high-quality alternatives to Hollywood-based firms.
