Layron DeJarnette
Character Designer
I received my Bachelor's Degree in illustration and design from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. I later became an instructor at the college teaching classes in anatomy and animation drawing.
In addition to working on various illustrations and animation projects, I had the opportunity to train in the Feature Animation department at the Walt Disney World Co. in Orlando, Florida. Prior to that, I was one of 12 selected to participate in the "Drawing for Animation" program at the Walt Disney studios in Burbank, California.
Since then I have been working as an animation director and character designer at various studios, including: Duck Studios, Hyperion Pictures and Klasky Csupo. Some of the animated commercials include the award winning Chevy S-10 "Gargoyle" commercial and A & W restaurants' "Blondie & Dagwood" spots. Direction credits include: three international Gansito spots for Marinela in Mexico City, Mexico and an animated short for MGM / Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As a character designer I have illustrated and designed characters for Disney's: "The Proud Family" cartoon show and comic strip for Disney publishing. In my early years, I worked at UPN 50 WKBD, in Southfield, Michigan, as an Emmy nominated and award winning artist; providing courtroom sketches (on location), designing graphics for the news staff, spot advertising and illustration for print.
